Kioxia has developed a direct liquid‑cooled variant of its PCIe Gen5 datacenter SSD, allowing deployment within high‑temperature rack enclosures without thermal throttling.
The CM9‑LC products support cold‑plate direct liquid cooling while retaining air‑cooling capability. Cooling is achieved via liquid‑cooled metal hardware making contact with either the top surface or both sides of the drive.
Maulik Sompura, Senior Staff Director of Product Management within Kioxia America’s SSD business unit, stated: “Growth in AI infrastructure is driving a fundamental shift in data‑center design toward higher power densities and sophisticated cooling techniques. The Kioxia CM9‑DLC Series meets these changing demands by pairing leading enterprise SSD performance with direct liquid cooling in the E3.S form factor. This lets customers roll out denser, more power‑efficient AI systems while delivering the performance, endurance and capacity required for data‑heavy workloads, including new‑generation AI architectures built around large‑scale memory and KV cache resources.”
Kioxia added liquid‑cooling capabilities to its SSD product family earlier this calendar year.
Integrating CM90‑DLC liquid‑cooled drives requires system integrators to align the host server’s cold‑plate and manifold hardware alongside coolant loops, and complete relevant qualification work. Kioxia offers no detailed guidance covering mounting procedures, thermal contact surfaces or exact cold‑plate interoperability, only noting the drives “support cold‑plate‑enabled server designs.”
System builders are advised to ensure server chassis adhere to contemporary industry specifications covering cooling‑interface zones and mechanical keying. That standard defines enclosure alterations intended to achieve flat, flush contact between the SSD housing and external circulating‑coolant cold‑plate manifolds.

Performance metrics for the liquid‑cooled CM9 match those of its air‑cooled counterpart.
Kioxia CM9 Series drives are presently sampling to qualified customers and will be featured at the 2026 OCP Global Summit, held October 12‑15 in San Jose, California.
